Oman, 2005 - from Yemen I crossed overland into Oman and travelled west to east across a country famous for it's forts - on the coasts and on mountain ridges, towers are everywhere. Historically, the Sultanate of Oman dominated the region as far as India and coastal Africa, until the Portuguese arrived in the area in 16th century ... today, unlike neighbouring Yemen, Oman is supermodern yet also traditional.
